Just a quick note about my plans for the game:
I intend to use it at my school primarily as an induction tool for new pupils and staff. But here I'm more interested in communicating the ethos of libraries rather than the practicalities.
Starting school (especially a boarding school with pupils coming from all over the world; and with the history, heritage, and quirks of my school) can be quite a daunting experience. I want to tap into the feelings of being new at school, having to find new companions in this strange new community in which you find yourself.
I've used elements of the real library in fantastical ways (more of this in Act Two, not yet published) because I'd love people to explore the real library in new and interesting ways. I imagine them walking past a window pane and recognising it as that same window pane described in the narrative and subsequently wondering what elements of the game and it's other-worldly characters lie beyond.
I'd love to reflect on the magic of storytelling through ideas about libraries, librarianship, and literature in the subsequent Acts.
Ultimately I want the player to realise how empowering it can be to envisage your own story - something that might be out of the ordinary or against the current.
